The do's and don'ts of cycling promotion in Berlin

Berlin's cycling policy is the focus of Christian Tänzler's breakout session at the IBTC in Utrecht. In 2018, Berlin gave greater priority to the development of more climate-friendly forms of local mobility, such as public transport, cycling and walking, with the Berlin Mobility Act. But how has this policy developed since then?.

Christian Tänzler

Christian Tänzler is an enthusiastic cyclist and certainly no stranger to the world of tourism. He worked for many years as head of the press department of Tourismus-Marketing Brandenburg GmbH and of Potsdam Tourismus GmbH. Later, he became, among other things, spokesperson for visitBerlin and member of the board (responsible for cycling tourism) of the ADFC, the German cyclists' association with over 200,000 members.

The Berlin Mobility Act formed an important foundation for making cycling in this city of millions safer and more attractive for residents and tourists. It was also an important building block in the development towards a climate-neutral metropolis. By focusing on infrastructure, safety and integration with other modes of transport, the city has been able to further improve its cycling culture. This goes hand in hand with the expansion of attractive offers for tourists who want to get to know and understand the city.

Breakout session at the IBTC

The break-out session will review the do's and don'ts of cycling promotion in Berlin in a very practical way. Which measures work and which don't? How do you get more tourists to discover the city by bike, instead of by car? What are the main successes and obstacles in the implementation of the Mobility Act policy?

On Thursday 13 February 2025, the IBTC will present a full-day programme in Domstad Utrecht with a keynote from Tim Voors, an interactive panel discussion, six breakout sessions, lunch, drinks and ample networking opportunities. If you register before 1 November, you will benefit from a 25% discount on the regular tariffs. So please register in time!

Why you can’t miss the IBTC 2025:

point  Knowledge gathering: widen your knowledge of cycling and walking tourism, discover the latest trends and insights.
